A Glen Marais man in his 50s has been charged with attempted murder after shooting another man in the leg on Friday night.
The two men had just come back from a night out together at the Dros at Cavendish Glen Shopping Centre on Monument Road.
According to the police, the two men left the restaurant together and went to a house on Rietfontein Road.
“The older man was drunk and allegedly tried to rape the other one, who resisted. An altercation ensued between them and shots were fired, one hitting the victim in the lower body,” Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS said on Saturday morning.
According to reports posted on the Kempton Park CPF Facebook page, the shooting happened at about 8pm last night.
One of the Facebook users posted it was the owner of the Dros who was injured after driving the drunken man home, but a representative at the restaurant confirmed the owner was not involved and that he was fine.
According to the Facebook post, the victim was taken to Lynnwood Hospital.
Mtshali confirmed that the victim was taken to hospital and the man drunken man has been charged with attempted murder.
