AN act of goodwill turned into an alleged attempted murder nightmare for an innocent man who was only trying to help a drunk man get home.

According to the latest information Express received about the incident in Glen Marais over the weekend, it seems the original reports from the police were factually incorrect.

A 59-year-old Glen Marais man is now facing charges of attempted murder after wounding the victim in the left leg on Friday night at about 8pm.

The victim and another man were helping the suspect get home safely after he got drunk at the Dros at Cavendish Glen Shopping Centre on Monument Road.

A reliable source confirmed there were no allegations of attempted rape as the police told Express on the weekend. The victim also never had drinks with the suspect and it was the first time he met him that night.

“The victim agreed to help getting him home. The drunk man’s wife was called to let her know about the situation. When they got to the man’s house on Rietfontein Road, the victim and an ex-manager of the Dros tried to help him out of the car.

That’s when he took out his gun and started shooting at both of them,” the source confirmed.

One of the bullets hit the victim in the left leg, causing a flesh wound. He was taken to hospital where he was treated for his wound and discharged.
