Motorists to fork out 96 cents a litre more for petrol

South Africa’s fuel prices are adjusted on a monthly basis, based on international and local factors that influence it either negatively or positively

South Africans will pay 96 cents a litre more for petrol from midnight on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the Department of Energy (DOE), diesel will increase with 74 cents a litre, illuminating paraffin with 73 cents a litre and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) with 154 cents a kilogram.

“The main reason for the fuel price increases is the average increase in the price of crude oil (by about 20%) during the period under review compared to the previous period. The other reason is the depreciation of the Rand against the US Dollar,” read the statement.
