
According to the Olifantsfontein SAPS communications officer, Constable Mokete Serakwana, the arrests were made on February 20.
“It is believed the suspects hijacked a white Mercedes Benz in Midrand and used the vehicle for a robbery in Pretoria. The Hawks received a tip-off about the suspects and the hijacked motor vehicle,” she said.
Const Serakwana added that the Hawks then blocked the suspected getaway route to Pretoria, along the M57.
“During the arrest, there was a shootout between the Hawks and the suspects. One suspect was shot. He under police guard at hospital. One of the suspects fled the scene. The three suspects appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court and the case was postponed to March 11. We urge residents to report any criminal activity happening in the area,” said Const Serakwana.
