Kempton model (19) to compete in NYC

To make her dream come true, she needs financial assistance

A former Hoërskool Birchleigh learner was scouted by International Model Talent Agencies where she will be competing for a contract to be signed in New York in late June.

She also has aspirations of studying project management for four years while modelling overseas.

“I have always dreamed of being a fashion model on the streets of Paris or New York and now I have the opportunity to make that dream a reality.”

However, she needs financial assistance to help her achieve this.

EXPRESS asked Moeketsi some questions about herself and her dream to become a model:

Tell us more about yourself, why you want to be a model and why you are interested in this career?

“I am a very down to earth person. I love interacting and mingling with people. I am just an ordinary 19-year-old teenager.

“I love modelling and started at the age of three when I won Miss McDonald’s. At the age of eight I won Little Miss Gauteng. For me that was my big break-through. I realised that modelling was what I wanted to do. I see myself as the next SA Tyra Banks.”

What is your other hobbies except modelling?

“I love swimming, dancing and singing, even though I cannot sing.”

Have you attended any fashion modelling courses?

“I only entered a competition once when one of my fashion designer friends needed someone to model her clothes for a school project.”

Why would you think you are fit to be a model?

“I have the qualities a model should have and I believe that if you want to do something you are passionate about, you have to go for it. That is what I am doing right now.”

What are your goals as a model and how do you see yourself progressing in this field?

“I see myself walking in the streets of Paris one day doing fashion weeks right around the world. I see myself having my own modelling school in SA, because I am from SA and would like to start my own business here.”

What is the message you would like to portray through your modelling to people and children?

“Do what you love, don’t be scared and let people tell you, you can’t. The more people tell you that you can’t, the more you need to show those people that you can do it, no matter what – that is what I did.

“People were always telling me I wouldn’t make it overseas and asked where would I would get the funds. But I believe through the help of others I will reach my dream and make a success and I will be in New York by June, I believe that.”

Do you eat healthy and how often do you go to the gym?

“I gym at home and jog with my cousin in the mornings and evenings. I eat healthy and I believe that water is very important, so I get my eight glasses in a day.”

What do you hope to accomplish in New York at the IMTA competition?

“Oh my word, at least ten contracts from different agencies, I will be thrilled. Then I will know that they see potential in me.”
