Armoured vehicle targeted in failed CIT heist

Eyewitnesses reported that an armoured vehicle collided with a silver Mercedes-Benz believed to belong to the suspects, followed by a barrage of gunfire.

The community of Moriting in Thembisa was brought to a standstill after multiple gunshots rang out at approximately 09:00 on April 23.

It is alleged that an attempted cash-in-transit (CIT) heist occurred in Moriting Section near a Shell garage, with the incident reportedly extending as far as the nearby Mnguni shop and the surrounding residential area.

According to initial information, an Izicash armoured vehicle was conducting collections at an ATM at the Mnguni shop when it came under attack.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear. However, it is believed that no money was taken during the attempted heist.

At the scene, Colonel Pero of Thembisa South SAPS and her team were monitoring the situation.
