A guard has been airlifted from a crime scene on the R23 at Erasmus Farm in Glen Marais earlier this afternoon.
According to reports a shootout ensued after a truck hijacking. The truck was apparently recovered in Bredell.
According to Russel Meiring of ER24 a second person was also injured.
He said ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found both patients on the side of the road. One of the patients was in a critical condition after he sustained a gunshot wound to his chest.
Paramedics began their treatment of the patient, providing him with advanced life support to stabilise his vital signs. Once treated, he was airlifted by medical helicopter to a private hospital.
A second patient was found with only minor injuries. The man was treated and transported by ambulance to Aarwyp for further treatment.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
