TWO suspects in possession of alleged unlicensed firearms and ammunition were arrested along the new Tembisa Road on Sunday last week.
SAPS flying squad members stationed in Northmead with the help of Olifantsfontein SAPS made the arrests shortly before noon.
Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, said the flying squad officers spotted a Toyota Quantam driving along the new Tembisa road. It was later discovered that the vehicle was hijacked in Kwamhlanga.
“The officers tried to stop the hijacked car but the driver increased his speed. The police called for back-up during the chase and Olifantsfontein SAPS officers heeded to the call,” explained Molokomme.
The suspects drove to a gravel road towards Birchleigh North extension 3.
“During the chase two of the suspects jumped out of the moving Quantam. The driver stopped the car and also made a run for it. Police chased them on foot in different directions.”
Two of the suspects were arrested and were found in possession of a 9mm pistol, a police firearm and a 7,65 magazine with seven bullets.
Both the firearm numbers were filed off, said Molokomme.
