According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, the dagga plants were found next to the river.
“The SAPS confiscated dagga plants worth R1-million. The officers believe the plants were planted by residents in the area, but no arrests were made as no one is responsible for the open veld. While the SAPS was removing the plants, some residents passed by and complained, saying dagga is the right medication for coughs and asthma,” said W/O Sekgobela.
She said the dagga plants were transported to the Ivory Park SAPS to be destroyed.
“The SAPS is appealing to residents to not grow dagga, If residents are found in possession of dagga plants, they will be arrested as dagga is illegal,” she said.
