The arrest occurred on Monday morning last week, at the K111 and Riverside roads in Ivory Park, Extension 15.
According to Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, JMPD officers spotted a green Fiat Punto. The officers decided to stop the vehicle and question the driver.
“The officers checked the vehicle and noticed that the licence disk was fake. Through investigating, the officers established that the vehicle was reported as stolen in Bloemfontein in August 2014,” she said.
W/O Sekgobela added that the suspect was arrested and detained at the Ivory Park SAPS.
“He is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on the charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The Ivory Park SAPS management is appealing to residents to make sure they take down the registration numbers of vehicles offering lifts. We urge the community to be vigilant when using private transport and to phone the police whenever they encounter criminal activities,” she added.
W/O Sekgobela added that residents are asked to be on the lookout for a white VW Golf 4 in Ivory Park, Extension 2. The driver of this vehicle is allegedly offering people lifts in the morning in order to rob them.
Should residents spot criminal activities, they can contact the Ivory Park SAPS on 011 990-9600.
