A Zambian man (29) was arrested on West Street in the central business district on Friday for allegedly producing fake documents, including school reports and SARS tax certificates.
Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said the suspect was found with sophisticated printers and a computer installed with software capable of producing fake official documents.
A fake work permit found on a foreigner led the metro police to the culprit whose shop is situated on West street. The undocumented Zambian man, who has been in the country since 2008 and has had ownership of the print shop, ironically named “We Print All” for only four months, was arrested. Passports, work permits, face value documents, certificates and diplomas reflecting names of various institutions and organisations were confiscated from the shop.
In order to verify some of the information and exhibits found at the shop, police and immigration officials’ assistance was sought. Preliminary investigations revealed that in some instances driving schools serve as intermediaries in this criminal chain in which desperate persons are charged thousands of rands.
In-depth investigations are underway to locate those who are in possession of fake documents produced by the suspect. Charges of possession and production of fraudulent documents were laid against the suspect at Kempton Park Police Station.
