A pair of Tembisa thieves’ joy was short lived after they were caught in the act stripping their “catch-of-the-day”, a red Nissan bakkie.
The pair was caught by EMPD officers in Isiziba Section, Tembisa, on Friday at about 1.30pm.
According to EMPD spokesman, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the owner of the bakkie woke up on Friday morning to find his car missing from his yard in Igqagqa Section, Tembisa.
“Apparently, the vehicle was stolen either on Thursday night or in the early hours of Friday. Members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Loss Control & Investigations Unit received information regarding the stolen car and began with their investigations,” Kgasago said.
“The officers were able to track down the men the same day. The suspects were found dissembling the stolen bakkie.”
The arrested pair, whose ages are 24 and 48, were charged at Tembisa Police Station with possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
They appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
