THE metro police arrested three alleged truck hijackers within 30 hours after a hijacking in Spartan on Tuesday.
The eight-tonner rigid truck with 31 pallets of various brands of toothpaste was hijacked at gunpoint around 7am. The empty truck was found in Germiston the next day and the three suspects were arrested at 1pm in Tembisa, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said.

Two of the hijackers forced the truck driver into their Ford Bantam bakkie and drove around with him in Tembisa. Soon after receiving a call that the stolen goods were safely delivered, the kidnappers in the Ford Bantam drove to Bapsfontein where they dumped the truck driver.
“The vigilant driver was able to pinpoint to the metro police the place in Tembisa where he was taken to on Tuesday before being dumped in Bapsfontein. Metro police officers could not believe their luck as two of the suspects, who were in the Ford Bantam, were recognised by the truck driver. The pair was with another person and all three were arrested.”
Kgasago said extensive investigations were underway and the suspects were being profiled as it was believed they could be responsible for the spate of truck hijackings in and around Kempton Park.
The trio, aged 24, 38 and 42, were booked in at Tembisa Police Station.
