Cellphones worth R6-million taken in Pomona Road robbery

CCTV footage of the suspects were captured and Todd said their faces were visible

CELLPHONES worth about R6-million were stolen by an armed gang in Pomona on Friday evening.

The incident happened between 7pm and 8pm just as Air Menzies International (AMI) on Pomona Road was about to close. Some of the suspects were armed.

Mike Todd, director of AMI, said the suspects gained access as any other client would by signing the book at the gate and ringing the bell for service.

“There were eight employees inside the building when the suspects gained access by threatening two security guards. By the looks of it, they were only there for the cellphones. They went straight for it and broke the pallets where the boxes of cellphones were. A few personal items were also taken,” Todd said.

About 4 000 phones were stolen.
