Peermont Trust hits the right note at Voice of Tembisa 87.6 FM
Peermont Trust funds Voice of Tembisa community radio station with much needed equipment to the tune of R776 000.
It was music to their ears when the Ekurhuleni Peermont Chambers of Commerce Trust (EPCoCT) chose to fund the Voice of Tembisa community radio station with much needed equipment to the tune of R776 000 in 2011.A four year project saw the small station turn the empty shell of a building with antiquated analogue equipment into the bustling, digital studio it is today.
As part of the migration from analogue to digital, the EPCoCT’s investment has allowed the station to procure on-air studio equipment, a mobile studio which is the only one of its kind for a community station in the Ekurhuleni area, sound proofing of a new studio and the insurance and general maintenance costs.
“The station team has worked hard over the past four years and we believe the Voice of Tembisa 87.6 FM will continue to be a success,” said programme manager, Mfanelo Mnguni.
“Because of the investment Peermont has made, our listenership has been boosted by 80 000 listeners over the past year. In 2011, the station employed 14 employees. This year, we employ just over 30 full time employees” said Mnguni.
“We hope the EPCoCT and other investors will return to the station so that we can further realise our dream of instituting a production studio to transfer skills in youth development.
“This will be done through Voice of Tembisa internship programmes and will help our community greatly with job creation. We wish to thank the trust and the trustees that have come to ensure our voices are always heard,” said Mnguni.
Peermont Corporate Affairs and CSI executive, Vusi Zwane said, “This is a great opportunity to demonstrate the work Peermont is undertaking in support of small business growth and community upliftment in marginalised communities residing in close proximity to our business operations.
“We can think of no better community initiative to support than one where the people of Tembisa are given a platform to engage, voice their concerns and create their own opportunities. We are proud to be affiliated with Voice of Tembisa FM.”
The objective of the Ekurhuleni Peermont Chambers of Commerce Trust is to grant funding to small and micro enterprises and self-help projects aimed at uplifting the socio-economic status of the poor and marginalised within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.
The Kempton Park Development Centre in Tembisa also receives financial support from the EPCoCT.
