A man carrying an unlicensed firearm resembling one belonging to metro police officers, was arrested on March 24.
According to Capt Jethro Mtshali of Kempton SAPS, the man was stopped by members of the crime prevention unit, W/O Simon Mokoenyane Constables Lucky Sibuyi and Abel Mabunda, while they patrolled West Street at about 1pm.
“The officers noticed two suspicious males driving in a vehicle that was packed with big luggage bags. Upon stopping the vehicle, one of the men fled. The second one also tried to flee but was cornered by the police,” Mtshali explained.
The officers searched the bags and inside one of them discovered a firearm and ammunition that resembled the ones carried by metro police officers.
The suspect (28), who alleges he stays in Vusimuzi Section in Tembisa, will face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
