Two house robbers face 33 years behind bars

The two were sentenced for crimes committed in 2013

TWO robbers had been sentenced to 33 years imprisonment for house robbery, burglary and possession of an unlicensed firearm in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on March 20.

Evans Maleka (27) and Ethen Williams (22) committed the crimes in October 2013, Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, said.

The incidents took place in the early hours of the morning and the victims were held at gunpoint,” explained Molokomme.

The first incident took place on October 4 on Essenwood Street in Birchleigh, followed by an incident on the 6th on Pongolariver Drive, Norkem Park.

The third house robbery took place on Sam Jennings Street, Norkem Park.

Maleka was arrested in March 2014 after being chased while breaking into a house on Theuns Street, Birchleigh North. He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and a stolen laptop. Williams was arrested the following day at Sethokga hostel, Tembisa.

Both suspects were linked to all the robberies through identification parades.

The acting station commander, Lt Col Olivier, appreciated the good work done by D/Sgt Lifuno Magaba and other role players in the case.
