METRO police officers recovered three hijacked vehicles over the Easter break.
In the first incident, a black Mercedes SL500 was found abandoned in Croydon half an hour after it was hijacked in Bedfordview.
According to EMPD spokesperson, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the driver of the car was hijacked on Thursday afternoon last week.
“The driver was instructed by two gunmen to exit his luxury vehicle and lie face down on the ground in Bedfordview at about 12.40pm. The two suspects then took off in the stolen vehicle,” Kgasago said.
EMPD Loss Control & Investigations Unit members received information regarding the stolen car at about 12.54pm and reacted swiftly. They were able to track the vehicle down in Croydon by 1.10pm.
The car was found abandoned and intact at The Heights Flats.
In a separate incident, a white Ford Bantam hijacked in Tembisa on Wednesday night last week was recovered at Kanana Ext 05 near Rabie Ridge. A black Volvo sedan stolen in Midrand was found undamaged at Mqantsa Section in Tembisa.
Following up on information provided by members of the Tembisa community, the Volvo was recovered on Saturday morning at about 9.30am and the Ford Bantam at about 1pm on the same day.
Both cars were still intact when they were found.
