Mr Obed Asonso Esedro (36) was allegedly assaulted and robbed of R100 000 in Ivory Park, Extension 13, recently.
Mr Esedro, who is renting a room in Ivory Park, said six suspects knocked on the door to his room and asked for him.
“When I opened the door, they quickly pushed me inside and onto my bed. They pointed a firearm at me and demanded money. I told them I did not have any.
“I was then beaten in front of my wife for more than half-an-hour,” he said.
Mr Esedro added that his wife took out the money when she realised the suspects were ready to shoot him.
“They took all the cash and fled the scene. The money did not belong to me. I had fetched the money from my brother in Mozambique, who wanted to buy a truck in Kaalfontein,” he said.
After the robbers fled the scene, the victim was rushed to hospital.
The Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, said a case of house robbery was opened.
“No suspects have been arrested. We are appealing for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects. We also urge the community to not keep large sums of cash at home to avoid house robberies,” she said.
