According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, women walking along the street at night become targets for rapists and robbers.
“Several incidents were reported to the SAPS over the past weekend. In one case, a woman walking with her friends at about 3am, was approached by three men who threatened the group with firearms,” said W/O Sekgobela.
She said the men took turns in raping the woman at Ivory Park Extension 13’s passage that joins to the Riverside section.
She urged community members to ensure their own safety and to not walk on the street at night.
“You will be arrested for being drunk in public if we find you walking on the streets under the influence of alcohol,” she said.
