Three suspects arrested; police hot on the heels of another two

STOLEN appliances worth R5-million were confiscated by the police at a block of flats in the central business district on Wednesday afternoon.

Three Nigerian men, aged 28, 48 and 49 were arrested. The police are hot on the heels of the two suspects who managed to escape.

Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said a resident smelled a rat when noticing five men loading boxes from a garage at a block of flats on the corner of Casuarina and Kempton streets at 4.30pm.

“He alerted the police and both the metro police and police responded. On approaching the five men who were loading the goods into a Hyundai H-100, two of them took off and managed to evade arrest. The Hyundai was positively verified as a stolen vehicle, Kgasago said.

94 LED plasma TVs, 100 conventional TVs, 50 home theatre systems, 20 Play Stations and 50 DVD players, all sealed in boxes, were seized.The three arrested suspects will face charges of possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and goods.
