A truck transporting car parts, which was hijacked in Vosloorus, was recovered in Benoni on Thursday morning.
Noticing a vehicle tracker chopper hovering above the CBD at 9am, members of the metro police’s equestrian unit enquired and were provided with a description of the truck, which was hijacked only hours earlier.

The officers spotted the truck at the Engen Service Station on 5th Street in Northmead.
According to Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, on approaching the hijacked truck at the filling station, the metro police officers were shown a clean pair of heels by the driver.
“Unfortunately, the suspect could not outrun the athletic officers. He was tackled to the ground and apprehended.”
The audacious suspect, who had just paid R1 200 for filling up the stolen truck, was waiting for the petrol attendant to hand over the receipt when the officers arrived. The truck, which was carrying a consignment of vehicle parts, was recovered with all its cargo untouched.
The 30-year-old Mozambican national was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle at Benoni Police Station.
