A 6-year-old child died on Wednesday last week, after she was found hanged at her home in Kanana Section, Tembisa.
The incident occurred on Wednesday last week, shortly after 4:30pm.
It is believed the victim was killed by her 16-year-old brother. There are allegations the brother heard voices telling him to kill his sister.
According to the Rabie Ridge SAPS communications officer, Constable Jacob Nhlongo, the child’s mother had left her children to go to work when the incident happened.
“It is believed the mother went to the crèche to fetch her child when she finished work. When she arrived at the crèche, she was told her child had not been brought to the crèche. The mother went home and that is when she discovered her child’s body,” said Const Nhlongo.
Paramedics were called and the child was certified dead at the scene.
Constable Nhlongo said a case of murder has been opened.
“The 16-year-old boy was arrested and released into the care of his parents,” he said.
