The gardener was treated at the scene and the woman will receive trauma counselling

AN armed gang, posing as police officers, gained entrance into an Edleen home where they beat up the gardener and tied him up with the elderly home owner.

According to Alpha Security, the incident happened last week Tuesday at about 11.20am.

“The woman, probably in her 80s, said she was in the house making food for the gardener when she looked outside and saw people beating him up,”Alpha Security said.

Seeing her, three of the suspects made their way into the house by forcing the door open, leaving the other two outside with the gardener.

“All the suspects tied up the woman and gardener. The woman said the men hit the gardener every time they demanded something.”

She also said they even went as far as threatening to gang rape her if she did not give them the keys to the safe, which she explained were not in the house as her husband had them.

Her husband, who was on his way home at the time, was then called on his cell phone by the suspects and threatened if he did not provide the keys, his wife would be hurt.

The fast-thinking husband immediately phoned security and police and alerted them about the incident.

A member of Edleen CPF posted a message on the CPF’s Whatsapp group, which was picked up by Alpha, who immediately dispatched a vehicle and called ER24 for medical back-up.

“Unfortunately, at the time the police and security officers arrived at the scene, the suspects had already fled with the couple’s son’s bakkie, onto which they had loaded everything they could steal, including TVs, cell phones and wallets.”

The gardener was treated at the scene and the woman will receive trauma counselling, organised by Alpha Security.
