The Ebony Park community is in mourning after a grade 12 pupil at Tsosoloso Ya Africa Secondary School was stabbed to death by a fellow classmate on Monday.
The pupil was stabbed shortly after morning assembly.
The deceased has been identified as Songeso Mabindla (20) from Ebony Park, Extension 4.
It was alleged that at about 9am an argument broke out between the deceased and one of his classmates over a seat, during which a pair of scissors was brought into play.
It is believed the scissors were used to cut out pictures.
The incident took place in full view of other grade 12 classmates.
Mabindla was allegedly stabbed once in the upper body and was certified dead by paramedics, who attended to the scene in the grade 12 classroom.
Members of the Germiston Forensic and Pathology Unit transported the body to the mortuary.
One of his best friends, Dibona Mabitsela, described Mabindla as a peaceful and quiet person.
“Mabindla used to help me with my homework. Now that I have lost him, I will be desperate for help.
“He was the person that I used to rely on for several things. We played football together and he loved it a lot,” he said.
Mabindla’s grandmother, Ms Princess Zabeko together with the entire family, was still in a state of shock.
The Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, confirmed that a murder case was opened.
“A 19-year-old man has been arrested and placed in the Ivory Park police cells. He is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court and the case is still under investigation,” she said.
At the time of going to print, attempts to get comment from the Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi were fruitless.
