Man shot in the head in highway shootout drama

Police shot a suspect in the head on Tuesday morning when he attempted to escape a crime scene.

A suspect was shot and injured when he allegedly tried to escape from the police on the R 21 near Olifantsfontein.

This comes after Gauteng Traffic Police officials, from the Highway Patrol, stopped a suspicious white Quantum on Tuesday morning, May 5.

The vehicle was driven by four men.

According to the Olifantsfontein SAPS communications officer, Constable Mokete Serakwana, the injured suspect was shot in the head as he tried to flee the scene.

“Three suspects were arrested and the third, injured suspect was transported to hospital. Inside the Quantum, police officers found two rifles and clothes. The SAPS is still investigating,” she added.

Const Serakwana said a case of possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle were registered at the Olifantsfontein SAPS.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
