It is believed the deceased was shot and killed by two suspects who were later detained at the Ivory Park SAPS.
The incident happened next to a bridge in River Side, Ivory Park.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, officers arrested two men, aged 27, in Kaalfontein Extension
“The SAPS received information about a man who was found dead and proceeded to the scene. The victim had gunshot wounds to his upper body.
“On arrival, the officers found the deceased. Two spent cartridges were found next to the victim. The man was later identified by his wife,” said W/O Sekgobela.
According to W/O Sekgobela, the victim received a phone call at about 2am. He left his wife at the house.
“A few hours later, her husband’s body was discovered next to a bridge at 8am. While at the scene, the SAPS received a tip off about the vehicle used by the suspects in the shooting,” she added.
The SAPS proceeded to the vehicle’s location in Kaalfontein. Two suspects were subsequently arrested and the vehicle was impounded.
“A spent cartridge was also found in the vehicle. Another suspect was arrested on the same day in Kaalfontein for possession of an unlicensed firearm. The arrest was made by members of the Tembisa Tactical Response unit.
“The SAPS received information from community members about an individual who was selling drugs in the area,” said W/O Sekgobela.
“Police offices searched the home of the suspects and found a pistol and ammunition. The suspect failed to produce a license for the firearm and its serial number was filed off,” she said.
The Ivory Park SAPS management thanked the community for its participation to ensure that all the suspects were arrested.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
