A tip off received by the police’s provincial task team on Wednesday afternoon led to the recovery of millions of Rands of electrical appliances inside a stolen truck.
Five men, four foreign nationals and a South African, were arrested after being caught red-handed on Sim Street at about 4pm.

According to Kempton Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Jethro Msthali, the suspects were found by police at a storage facility, already off-loading the goods into a second truck, also suspected to be stolen. “The provincial team got a tip-off at about noon about a truck that was hijacked in Germiston on Tuesday. The officers were informed the truck was being tracked to Sim Street,” Mtshali said.
“Police made their way to the scene where they found the five suspects transferring the boxes into another truck.”
The boxes contained various electrical appliances, including refrigerators, heaters and fans.
The suspects, two Burundians (29 and 33), one Zimbabwean (26), one man from Swaziland (33) and a South African (32), were arrested on the spot on charges of possession of two hijacked trucks and suspected stolen goods.
Mtshali confirmed that investigations would continue to first determine if the suspects could be linked to other truck hijackings before they appeared in court.
