An 80-year-old Van Riebeeck Park woman and her daughter were beaten by two armed men during an armed robbery in Van Riebeeck Park on Saturday afternoon.
Personal Home Security (PHS) officers were called to the scene. The robbers made off with cellphones and bags.
PHS Kempton Park area manager, Carl Buys, said two intruders, armed with a rifle and pistol, had entered the property through the front door, which was open at the time.
“They found the owner and his wife. They hit the woman over the head with a blunt object, then further assaulted her. They also assaulted the couple’s daughter,” said Buys.
The 80-year-old woman was rushed to hospital by her daughter. Buys said the kitchen was covered in blood from their injuries.
He said the family had been too traumatised to speak and were offered counselling following the incident.
The robbers fled the scene in a metallic blue Opel Corsa.
Norkem Park Police’s Capt Lesibana Molokomme confirmed that a case of house robbery had been opened and was under investigation.
No arrests had been made.
