Beware: this vehicle could be out to hijack you

Flashing lights were switched on as her son increased speed

A concerned mother warns residents about a white Mazda MX6 which followed her children from church on Thursday night, trying to hijack them.

She posted on the Kempton Express Facebook page that the driver tried to push them off the road.

“We don’t have a licence plate number, but a distinct feature was the fact that it had bright flashing lights between the head lights. The moment my son spotted they were being followed, he increased speed, and then the flashing lights were switched on, possibly to create the impression that it was occupied by police officers or detectives.

“Fortunately my son is an excellent driver, and my children managed to escape, but a female driver on her own could easily have fallen prey to the perpetrators. That is why I am placing this warning. Please be extremely careful, so as not to become part of statistics.”

She said the pursuit began on Aldergrove Avenue in Bonaero Park, onto Atlas Road and then onto North Rand Road. Her son eventually ditched them after he turned off North Rand Road onto Albatross Stret.

“I think they gave up on the pursuit when they realised that my children were on their way to Kempton Park Police Station.

“I am thankful to God for protecting my children. It could have easily ended in tragedy,” she said.
