Case withdrawn against chained-up speedster

Social media was abuzz on Friday following photos showing the woman's leg tied to a chair at Kempton Park Police Station

THE case against a Benoni woman who was tied to a chair at Kempton Police Station on Friday after being arrested for speeding, has been withdrawn.

The 37-year-old woman appeared in Kempton Park Magistarte’s Court on Monday at about 11.30am where she faced a charge of reckless and negligent driving.

No reasons were provided for the case’s withdrawal but according to Reza Patel, who first broke the news on Twitter, “the prosecutor just told the magistrate that the state doesn’t wish to charge”.

The woman was arrested by the metro police on Atlas Road in Bonaero Park for driving over the speed limit. She was then taken to the police station where she spent hours tied to a chair before being released on bail.
