The Ivory Park SAPS is appealing to the community to beware of suspects who are allegedly breaking walls and targeting the spaza shops to gain entry and steal stock.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, cases were reported last year where the suspects targeted Somalian and Pakistani spaza shops.
“The number of cases initially dropped in 2015 until Friday last week.
“A Bangladeshi man alleged that he was sleeping in his spaza shop in Ivory Park Extension 10, when five men forced entry by breaking his spaza shop wall.
“One of the suspects assaulted the man,” she said.
W/O Sekgobela said the suspects took 10 bags of mealie meal, energy drinks, cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash.
“We are appealing to members of the community to help each other and to work together with the police to fight crime.
Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects should contact the SAPS,” she said.
