A man linked to two burglaries that occurred in the same street on the same day was caught out by residents on Friday night.
According to Kempton SAPS spokesman, Capt Jethro Mtshali, the 32-year-old’s decision to steal an ID book from one of the homes he burgled, led to his arrest.
A resident recognised the burglary victim through his (victim’s) ID book, which was in the suspect’s possession at the time.

“On May 29, the suspect first broke into a house on Maxwell Street where he allegedly stole a Samsung Galaxy tablet. There was no forced entry at the home,” said Mtshali.
He later moved to a second home on the same street where he allegedly stole money and the house owner’s ID. The owner of the house was at work at the time and upon returning, he found his home had been broken into.
“Members of the community brought the suspect to the home owner after the identity document of the victim was found in his possession. During the investigation it was established that the same suspect had allegedly broken into another property on the same street,”Mtshali said.
At 10.50pm, community members arrested the suspect and handed him over to Kempton SAPSe.
The man appeared in court on charges of housebreaking and theft.
