Thousands of rands stolen from Van Riebeeck Park shooting victim

No arrests have been made at this stage

POLICE have confirmed that R10 000 was stolen from the victim of Wednesday afternoon’s shooting at the Pick n Pay centre on Soutpansberg Drive.

The 24-year-old woman was taken to hospital after being shot and robbed of the money she had just withdrawn from a bank at Festival Mall.

She was followed from the mall by three people driving silver BMW X5.

Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, said the woman was on her way home to Birchleigh North when she stopped at Van Riebeeck Park Pick n Pay to do some shopping at about 1.30pm.

“As she got out of her car, she was approached by a man who pointed a firearm at her. He demanded the victim’s hand bag. The woman complied with the man’s demands and gave him her handbag with the R10 000 inside,” Molokomme said.

Although the woman obeyed the robber’s instructions, he still went ahead and shot her once in the leg before fleeing the scene in the X5.

His accomplices remained inside the SUV the whole time. The registration number of the vehicle is unknown.

It is alleged the injured woman was taken to Arwyp.

No arrests have been made at this stage and police are urging anyone with information that may help in solving the case to contact Norkem Park SAPS on 011-391-1814/5.
