Youngsters encouraged to take part in march
The aim of the march is to encourage young people to refuse falling into the trap of the current social ills and pandemics.
The ward 7 committee is hosting a youth development march on June 20.
“We are appealing to the youth of Tembisa to join us in the fight against negative social issues and the pandemics facing young people,” said Mr Mzwakhe Rathete, the public relations officer of the committee.
Mr Sihle Makhanye, the treasurer of the committee, said the gathering is called the Ward 7 Youth Development Imbizo March – “Be The Change You Want to See”.
According to Mr Makhanye, the aim of the march is to encourage young people to refuse falling into the trap of the current social ills and pandemics.
“We want to encourage our youth to engage in the programmes the ward 7 youth development committee will be implementing,” said Mr Makhanye.
“The Ward 7 Youth Development Imbizo March is set to be an annual programme, focused on crime, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, children and women abuse, HIV and Aids, sugar daddies, activity-oriented leadership, entrepreneurship, education, good governance and democratic programmes in Tembisa and other communities at large,” he said.
The march will start at 8:30am and will depart from Ground 7, at the corner of Hausa Kingdom and Clover Street, in Tlama Tlama.
“We will march down Corner Hausa Kingdom Street then turn left at RTJ Namane Drive until we reach our 10-minute resting point around 09:20am at the BP garage.
“We will make a left turn at George Nyanga Drive, then march to the Ekurhuleni Civic Centre to collect the government officials. We will then continue the march via Andrew Maphetho to the local police station at 10:05am, where a 20-minute resting point will be based,” said Mr Makhanye.
The march will then proceed back to Ground 07, where the main event will take place from 11am to 2pm.
“We will have speakers addressing the community about the social ills affecting the young men and women in the community. We will also showcase local talent,” said Mr Makhanye.
The Ward 7 Youth Development Committee will lead the march, alongside the ward 7 councillor, the founder of Ambassadors Youth and Community Development (AYCD) Mr Aneil, Ward 7 Youth Development March ambassadors, officials, artists, ward committees and community members.
“There will be entertainment by local artists and guest speakers after the march,” said Mr Makhanye.
