Man robbed by ‘Good Samaritan’

The suspect was identified as one of two men who had helped the victim to push-start his car

A 28-year-old man was arrested for residential burglary and possession of stolen property in Umgana Street, Birch Acres, on Monday last week.

According to the Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson, Captain Lesibana Molokomme, two police officers from the OR Tambo SAPS, who were driving a marked police car, were stopped by a member of the community.

The resident told the police officers he had seen a suspicious-looking person jump the wall into one of the properties along Umgana Street.

“The officers responded and arrested the suspect, who was in possession of stolen property, including a computer screen, a DVD player and clothes,” said Capt Molokomme.

The owner of the house, who was not home at the time, was contacted by neighbours who informed him about the burglary.

“Upon arrival, the victim identified the suspect as one of two men who had helped him in the morning to push-start his car to work,” said Capt Molokomme.

The stolen goods, valued at R6 300, were identified.

In another incident on the same day, residents apprehended a 24-year-old man for trying to steal a stepladder valued at R1 400, along Delmain Street in Birchleigh North.

The SAPS was notified and the suspect was handed over.

The suspect now faces a charge of theft.
