AN alert security officer came to the rescue of a robbery victim who was being chased by two would-be thieves who wanted to steal his laptop.
According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesman for Kempton SAPS, two people were apprehended by a security officer on June 4.
“It is alleged the victim was walking on North Rand Road in Kempton Park CBD at about 8.40am when he was approached by two men who demanded his laptop forcefully,” Mtshali said.

The victim ran away and the two men chased him. Luckily, a security officer witnessed the incident and also gave chase.
“The alert officer managed to arrest the suspects, aged 23 and 32, and then called the police,” Mtshali said.
They will face a charge of attempted robbery.
In a separate incident, an Ekurhuleni metro police officer helped bring a laptop and GPS thief to justice after chasing him down on June 6.
“Shortly after 2pm the owner of a house on Voorbrand Street in Aston Manor was relaxing in his home watching television when suddenly an unknown suspect gained entry into the house,” Mtshali said.
According to the home-owner, the suspect quickly grabbed his laptop and GPS and made a run for it.
“The victim followed the suspect into the street as a patrolling traffic officer passed by. The victim informed the officer of the incident and the metro police immediately gave chase,” Mtshali said.
While the suspect was running away, he dropped the laptop and GPS. The officer managed to arrest him and handed him over to police.
The 25-year-old was arrested for theft.
