Suspect fills wheelie bin with stolen goods

The man was arrested while pushing the bin down Umgandande Street in Birch Acres

A 30-year-old man pushing a two-wheeled municipal bin filled with stolen property was arrested for house breaking and theft on Monday last week.

According to Norkem Park police spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, the suspect was arrested on Umgandande Street after breaking into a house on Muni Street, Birch Acres.

“At about 11.30am Sgt Themba Maphanga was driving in the area and was informed that a suspicious-looking person was pushing an Ekurhuleni dustbin,” explained Molokomme.

“The officer approached the suspect and upon searching the bin, items such as a 25lt tin of paint, a 5lt tin of waterproof paint, electric appliances, groceries and cutlery were recovered,” Molokomme further added.

The owner was traced and opened a case of house breaking and theft.

The stolen items were handed to the owner after being identified.
