TWO men who went into a Monument Road pet shop to enquire about bird seed, allegedly stole R2 500 cash from the till on Friday afternoon.

According to Joyful Pets shop owner, Hilton Pitout, two ”decently dressed”  men entered the shop at about 1pm.

”The female attendant was alone in the shop at the time. The two guys first came into the shop, then went out again. They came inside a second time and one of them asked the shop attendant to show him the bird seed, which she did,” Pitout explained.

While the one man distracted her, his accomplice allegedly went straight to the till, opened it, and stole R2 500 cash.

They left in an Isuzu double cab. The men, who were both dressed in black, were unarmed and the shop attendant wasn’t hurt.

”Luckily, my neighbour had noticed the men in their car and had a suspicious feeling, so they wrote down the registration number, so at least we have that.”

A case was not opened with the police, but Pitout said he would definitely consider ways of improving security measures at the shop.
