A 28-year-old man was arrested last Friday for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl at Winnie Mandela Park.
It is believed the suspect was apprehended by the parents of the victim, after he was found by community members who heard the victim screaming for help.
Her screams were heard from inside a room.
The man was later handed over to the Tembisa SAPS.
According to the Tembisa SAPS communications officer, Captain Manydza Ralidzivha, the victim had accompanied her friend to her grandmother’s house in Ibaxa Section.
“They boarded a taxi to Ibaxa Section. There were three men inside the vehicle. She was then left alone in the vehicle.
“The taxi driver drove to Tshepo Section, claiming he wanted to see his friend. The victim tried to escape but the taxi driver slapped her in the face,” said Capt Ralidzivha.
He said the suspect forced the victim out of his vehicle and to his room, where he then allegedly overpowered and raped her.
“While he raped her, the victim screamed for help. Community members then knocked on the door. The residents insisted that the suspect stop forcing the victim to do something she does not want to do. The victim was taken to her home where she told her mother about the incident.
“Her parents then apprehended the suspect. He was later brought to the Tembisa SAPS, where he was detained,” said Capt Ralidzivha.
The Tembisa SAPS thanked the victim’s parents for handing the suspect over to the police.
