TK leaves behind a legacy

Legend passes on.

Tumiso ‘TK’ Kutwane, a former teacher turned banker, community leader and the earliest founder of Hospital View, died on June 7.

Mr Kutwane died at his home, at the corner of Samora and Ditiro streets, and was buried on June 13.

The memorial service was held on June 11 in Tembisa.

Mr Kutwane was born in Ditshobotla, Lichtenburg, in the North West on March 16, 1941.

Mr Kutwane left teaching to take up a career in banking at Barclays, at the Wynburg Alexandra branch, in the 70s.

Tembisa was under forced removals from Alexandra and he relocated to Difateng. He was among the first black estate administrators at South African Perm and he facilitated the establishment of Mkhathini Section followed by Hospital View, the first black middle class establishments in Tembisa.

Many teachers, both in Soweto and Alexandra, are the products of Mr Kutwane efforts.

Mr Kutwane will be remembered by countless residents of Mkhathini and Hospital View for the role he played in assisting them to obtain bonds to purchase homes in the area.

Mr Kutwane is survived by his wife Alma, his three children, Morongwa, Tsepo and Kgosi Dintsi, nine grandchildren and his great-grandchild.
