WHILE a frantic Kempton Park mother was looking for her missing son, he was spending some time behind bars after being arrested for alleged drunk driving.
Ryan Watson’s (23) mother took to Facebook and Missing Children appealing to community members to assist her in finding her son who apparently went missing on June 16. Watson had gone to Rockabilly’s Pool Lounge in Edenvale on Tuesday night and last spoke to his family at about 7.30pm.
Watson’s mother told ENCA that the family believed he had been drugged and kidnapped after video footage of Watson emerged of him at the parking lot of Rockabilly’s staggering to his car with an unknown man.
Now that he had been found she said he didn’t remember what had happened to him on the day he went missing.
Norkem Park police spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, said a suspect had been arrested on June 17 for drunken driving. “The suspect was arrested on Green Avenue in Edleen just after midnight,” explained Molokomme.
He confirmed that the suspect was in fact Watson.
Watson’s passenger, aged 24, was arrested for allegedly assaulting the police officer.
Previous reports said that Watson’s cellphone and car were missing.
Molokomme responded: “The suspect chose to organise his own private towing service to take his car. As for the missing cellphone, the suspect has the right to report the matter to any police station for investigation.”
The two were detained in Tembisa as Norkem Park Police Station does not have holding cells and appeared in court on Thursday.
