According to the Tembisa SAPS’ Constable Patricia Mgijimi, the suspect, who is currently in custody, allegedly lured women to open spaces by promising them work.
Const Mgijima said the man met a woman at Phumulani Mall and promised her work.
“He told the victim to meet him at the Olifantsfontein railway station. He claimed there was a shortage of laborers during the night shift and she went with him in the hope of finding employment,” said Const Mgijima.
“When they reached the Olifantsfontein Station, he took her to an open field. He overpowered her and raped her,” said Const Mgijima.
In another incident, Const Mgijima said the man met two women in Kempton Park.
He promised them work and claimed Spoornet was looking for female laborers to work the night shift.
Const Mgijima said the women and man boarded a taxi and when they all arrived at Hospitalview, he suggested they take a shorter route through the bushes to the railway line.
“He threatened them with a sharp object. He overpowered them and raped both of them,” said Const Mgijima.
The case was postponed to June 26.
