Pupil arrested for possession of dagga

The arrest was made shortly after 1pm by officers from the Norkem Park Crime Prevention Unit.

A 19-year-old schoolboy was arrested on Thursday last week for possession of dagga.

The arrest was made shortly after 1pm by officers from the Norkem Park Crime Prevention Unit on Strydom Street, Birchleigh North.

According to the Norkem Park police spokesperson, Captain Lesibana Molokomme, the teenager was arrested during a stop-and-search in the area.

“The unit members approached a group of schoolboys on Strydom Street. One of the boys tried walking away from the group. Police stopped him and upon searching him, found a container with dagga in his possession,” said Capt Molokomme.

Capt Molokomme said the dagga was in small plastic bags.

“The suspect is a pupil at one of the schools around Norkem Park. He was arrested for possession of dagga, weighing 35g with a street value of R2 600,” said Capt Molokomme.

It is suspected that the pupil may have wanted to sell the dagga to other pupils.

“We appeal to parents to inspect their children’s school bags to avoid such incidents,” Capt Molokomme.
