SEBENZA SAPS arrested two suspects, who are allegedly from Durban, after they had broken into a house in Esther Park on Thursday at around 1.30pm in Isando,.
A shoot-out between Sebenza police and the suspects ensued after a high speed chase from Esther Park to the corner of Isando and Diesel roads.
One of the suspects sustained a bullet graze injury to the head.
Sebenza SAPS spokesman, Const Sharon Tsotsotso, said the two broke into a house on Amatungulu Street.
“Const Tiyani Phakula and Sgt Carnatius Berresh were patrolling the area when they saw the suspects’ car pull off from the driveway of the house at high speed. Police followed the vehicle and shots were fired both ways,” she explained.
Tsotsotso said even though the suspects had fired shots at the police, no firearm was recovered when they were eventually cornered.
Two LCD Plasma screens were recovered from the Mercedes Benz, which apparently belongs to the driver’s uncle. Housebreaking implements were also found, said Tsotsotso.
The owner of the stolen property identified the items as his.
The suspects alleged they had arrived from Durban earlier on Thursday morning and had booked a room at a guesthouse in Yeoville.
“In November 2013, the 22-year-old suspect wa also s involved in a shoot-out with Edenvale SAPS where one suspect was shot and killed. He skipped bail and has a warrant of arrest against him,” she further explained.
The two will be charged with housebreaking, attempted murder and possession of stolen property.
