Amputee’s grant restored

On the 22 June 2015 Mr Prince Makanye's request for restoration of his grant was successful.

Amputee, Mr Prince Makanye, was informed on June 22 that his request for restoration of his grant was successful.

After numerous failed applications, Mr Makanye approached The Tembisan for assistance.

The Tembisan previously reported that Mr Makanye is going hungry since the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) stopped his grant.

Mr Makanye’s right leg was amputated following a gunshot wound in 1992.

According to Mr Makanye, he applied for the grant in 1993. The grant was approved and he began receiving money in 1994.

“The grant was approved as permanent, but then it changed to temporary. I had to renew my application every 12 months,” said Mr Makanye.

He said SASSA then cut the grant duration from 12 months to every six months.

The grant was finally stopped altogether in November, 2013.

Following the article, Mr Makanye was approached by SASSA to review his previous applications.

Mr Makanye made a new application which was to be responded to on June 22.

Mr Makanye said he is glad his application has finally been considered.

Mr Makanye said people should not be afraid to come forward when they have problems like his.

“I thank The Tembisan for making my plea public,” he said.
