A woman is facing criminal charges of defeating the ends of justice and extortion after admitting to planning her own kidnapping.
The woman said she did it to try get money from her husband.
The husband received a phone call from a male person, demanding R13 000 from him in return for his wife, Kempton police spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, said.
”The man came into our station last week Friday (June 26) to report he had received a phone call from a strange man telling him he had taken his wife, and he would have to pay him R13 000 to get his wife back,” Mtshali explained.
”A case of kidnappingswas then opened.”
According to the husband, his wife had called him a few hours earlier that same day and told him she had won R20 000 at Emperors Palace and asked him to fetch her. He told her to rather hire a maxi taxi cab to bring her to their Midrand home.
”Investigations then led detectives to Angelo Informal Settlement in Boksburg on Thursday where the woman was found.”
She admitted to lying to her husband about the kidnapping and said it was all planned to get money from him. Police arrested her on the spot.
