Wits brings Grahamstown Arts Festival to Jo’burg

CAN’T make it to Grahamstown for this year’s National Arts Festival?

Don’t stress because Wits Theatre is bringing 16 of the latest, most innovative productions to heat up Johannesburg’s stages.

Wits’ much anticipated 969 Festival will run from July 15-26.

Some of the international productions to be showcased include ”Singarevva and the Palace” and ”Ndebele Funeral” which features the renowned Canadian actor Alon Nashman.

There are also local productions lined up which include ”Kafka’s Ape”, an intriguing production on identity and what it means to be human; ”We Didn’t Come to Hell for the Croissants: 7 Deadly Stories for Consenting Adults”, as well as ”Boegoespruit”, a production by third and fourth year Wits School of Arts Performance students.

Music and poetry productions will also be on show when artist Carlos Fernandos presents the cultural rhythms of his native country Colombia, using percussion instruments, voice and drums.

And don’t think the poetry fanatics have been left out, as a variety of diverse performances will also be available.
