The Tembisa SAPS arrested two men, aged 35 and 37, for driving under the influence of alcohol, culpable homicide and defeating the ends of justice.
The Tembisa SAPS spokesperson, Constable Patricia Mgijima, said the men were arrested after the SAPS attended to the scene of an accident recently.
“Officers found two suspects, who were suspected to be under the influence of alcohol. It is claimed the suspects struck and killed a pedestrian during the accident.
“The 37-year-old suspect lied to the police, saying he was the one driving. After he realised the victim had died at the scene, he changed his statement, claiming he was not driving,” she said.
Const Mgijima said the two men were arrested and detained at the Tembisa Police Station.
The Tembisa SAPS warns the community to not drink and drive.
“Drinking and driving is a serious offense. Beware of giving statements that are not valid to the police. This leads to cases being opened against you,” said Const Mgijima.
