Legal action taken against dumping resident

The dumps are allegedly creating a health hazard and resulting in an infestation of flies, rats and mice

FOR months on end, a Birch Acres resident has been requesting Ekurhuleni Metro’s health department to inspect and instruct the owner of 8 Sperwer Crescent, Birch Acres, to clean the “rubbish dumps” at the back of his property.

“These dumps are creating a health risk for neighbours and flies, rats and mice are the order of the day. I trust the health department will act ASAP, as the owner of this property is aggressive towards neighbours that have been asking him to kindly clean the garden refuse,” she said.

The resident said it had been 18 months of numerous complaints.

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe said the metro’s environmental health division had taken legal action against the owner of the property.

“An inspection on June 24 revealed the owner had cleaned but not to the division’s satisfaction. A new summons will be issued to the owner if he does not comply,” Gadebe pointed out.

The division will monitor the situation until it is resolved.
